Prescription Medications

Prescription medications are commonly ordered by our doctors to treat arthritis and other chronic conditions.  Each patient’s medical background, family history and current medical status varies; therefore, it is unrealistic to recommend the most effective drug for a patient prior to a full medical consult. Based on an analysis of 7,945,910 prescriptions written by rheumatologists from January to March 2008, Rheumatology News published the results that show the top 10 drugs prescribed by rheumatologists:

  • Methotrexate and Folic Acid
  • Prednisone
  • Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine)
  • Vicodin (hydrocodone and acetaminophen)
  • Ultram (tramadol)
  • Mobic (meloxicam)
  • Celebrex (celecoxib)
  • Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine)
  • Lyrica (pregabalin)

Always consult with your physician before discontinuing any medication.  A number of medications can be dangerous if stopped abruptly and must be tapered slowly.
